Working toward his bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science at American University, Alec Christopher Schemmel recently completed an internship at the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, DC. Alec Schemmel’s responsibilities included constituent correspondence, office management and legislative research on agency policies and other pertinent issues. Monitoring action on the floor, he attended a variety of congressional briefings and hearings on a regular basis.
Remaining active in journalism, Mr. Schemmel has served as an editorial intern with The Daily Caller News Foundation where he authored articles on a daily basis. His journalism experience has extended to conducting interviews with noteworthy figures, including former US Attorney General John Ashcroft and political activist Candace Owens. He has also served as a student correspondent with The College Fix where he authored online articles about college related news nationwide.
From 2017 to 2018, Mr. Schemmel served as a communications intern with NGO's in Washington, such as The Center for Mind-Body Medicine and The Impact Center. Schemmel worked with the communication directors at each of these organizations to create and implement effective programming and marketing campaigns for these organizations that offered resources ranging from global trauma relief to career services for high achieving women.
