Before assuming the position of deputy chief of the officer division in the Directorate of Military Personnel Management, Deputy Chief of Staff G-1 in Washington, DC, in June 2016, career military officer Alex Gallegos of Idaho commanded the 101st Special Troops Battalion at Fort Campbell in Kentucky. This position placed him in charge of the training, welfare, morale, and combat readiness of approximately 600 Soldiers and their Family members.
Alex Gallegos’ specific responsibilities at Fort Campbell ranged from providing mission command of Soldiers responsible for providing human resources, finance operations, and signal support to orchestration of combat readiness and life support of the brigade headquarters. His units provided multifaceted sustainment support to Army and Joint military operations as well as a range of intergovernmental and multinational forces.
He previously served tenures as an executive officer to the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army and Acting Assistant Secretary of the Army at the headquarters of the US Army in Washington, DC. His career accomplishments have earned him dozens of military decorations, including two Legions of Merit, two Bronze Star Medals, five Meritorious Service Medals, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, and multiple Army Commendation Medals.
