Andrew Kortyna

Physicist Experienced in Instructing College Students

JILA (Joint Institute of Laboratory Astrophysics)

An experimental physicist who has authored approximately 20 published research articles and generated over $500,000 in grants, Andrew Kortyna has well over a decade of experience as an educator. Prior to assuming his current role as a research associate at the Joint Institute of Laboratory Astrophysics (JILA), Andrew Kortyna spent nearly 14 years developing curriculum and teaching physics courses as an assistant/associate professor at Lafayette College.

Andrew Kortyna undertook similar responsibilities at Colby College, where he served for 2 years as a fellow, and at Bates College, where he held the title of visiting assistant professor. During his tenures at the aforementioned schools, he instructed courses ranging from introductory to upper-level physics.

Complementing his experience as an educator, Andrew Kortyna has supervised research students at several institutions, including the Universität Kaiserslautern, where he spent time as a fellow and guest scholar while pursuing his PhD. Today, he draws on this background to oversee postdoctoral research assistants at JILA.
