One of the main reasons Andrew Lombara loves the world of trading is the exhilarating, constant rush he got from moving billions of dollars all day long. This perfectly taps into his competitive nature.
Since childhood, Andrew Lombara has been driven and passionate about whatever he does. His earliest memory is in Boston, where he grew up. He remembers battling over a ball with his brothers. In high school, Andrew was drawn immediately to his high school’s football team. Even though he excelled game after game, he also enjoyed other sports such as hockey, basketball, and baseball. As much as he enjoyed those other sports, football remained his steady interest all the way up to college level.
While attending Harvard, Andrew Lombara majored in government and spent his free time playing on his ivy league’s football team for multiple years. This same drive and determination came in handy when he met a Harvard alum who showed him the ropes of trading. The rush and excitement on the trading floor greatly appealed to Andrew’s personality type. Much like during his football career, Andrew quickly started excelling as a bond trader and rapidly became a force to be reckoned with.
Prior to his position at Merrill Lynch, Andrew worked at Prudential Securities, where he was quickly promoted to head trader of the zero-coupon bond desk. He remained there as a managing director until HSBC coaxed him to head a 60-person team.
Andrew’s last position before retirement was with HSBC Bank USA, where he held the position of head of government bond training. This career choice fit him perfectly because trading always held such a keen interest for him. He is still very proud of the fact that every year he was in charge, Institutional Investor magazine ranked Merrill Lynch as the #1 top strips dealer.
Originally from Boston, Andrew Lombara now calls New York State his home. Even though he is currently retired, Andrew Lombara still finds ways to make life an exciting adventure. Working out and running are two activities that are especially important to him. In addition to playing sports, however, Andrew is also an avid spectator. He is unwaveringly loyal to his home town Boston teams – the Red Sox, the Celtics, the Patriots, and the Bruins. Now that he has extra leisure time, he enjoys spending that time with his family and staying active. He loves to take his family on beach trips, among other adventures, and he loves cooking as a family.
