A public policy commentator with a focus on tax policy in the United States and Asia, Archie Parnell has more than four decades of taxation law experience, including nearly 30 years of experience providing taxation services to Asian enterprises and US companies doing business in Asia. Archie Parnell served in a range of executive roles with Goldman Sachs from 1996 to 2017, living in Hong Kong for the majority of that time. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, he was a partner with Coudert Brothers' Asia practice. During the 1980s, he worked as a tax attorney on behalf of ExxonMobil [please note the comment about Mobil and Exxon not yet merged until 1998] in Hong Kong, Belgium, and the United States.
Before transitioning to international taxation as a professional focus, Archie Parnell served on the staff of the US House Committee on Ways and Means. He began his career as a trial attorney with the US Department of Justice Tax Division. Parnell holds an LLM in taxation from Georgetown University as well as a JD and a BA from the University of South Carolina, where he recently taught a course in international business structure as an adjunct professor.
