A member of the Community College League of California, the American Educational Studies Association, and the National Association of Black Educators, Dr. Bayinaah Jones is an experienced educator and academic administrator concerned with college diversity, student equity, student recruitment, and retention. Dr. Bayinaah Jones most recently served as dean of language arts at San Jose City College and spent the previous four years in a director of research role with San Jose Evergreen Community College District, where she was the lead researcher on numerous projects supporting diversity, equity, and institutional accountability. She also provided oversight to various district-wide initiatives between the two-college district and the surrounding K-12 schools. In her executive capacity, she designed and provided key implementation of a software tool that provides college administrators and classroom instructors with easy, desk-top access to longitudinal data. To improve student success, enrollment and retention-to-completion-of-degree, trainings and presentations using this software tool were conducted district-wide and to the Board of Directors by Dr. Jones and her staff.

In the past, Dr. Bayinaah Jones taught sociology and English as a second language at De Anza Community College, as well as the GED program at Trenholm State Technical College. She also has more than 10 years of experience as a K-12 instructor at schools in Alabama and California.

Dr. Jones earned her doctor of philosophy at the University of North Carolina. She also holds a master's degree in education from Harvard University and a bachelor's degree in American Studies from the University of California Santa Cruz. She is also a certified K-12 administrator.
