Bob Thomas serves as the executive director of Advancement Marketing and Communications at Michigan State University (MSU) in East Lansing, following two decades in various positions at the university, which is his alma mater. In his advancement marketing and communications position, Bob Thomas is tasked with the design and execution of all advancement and university development strategies at MSU, including all related materials, such as the alumni magazine and various fundraising newsletters. He further serves MSU as part of the university’s leadership cabinet for university advancement.
Mr. Thomas initially studied business at the school between 1980 and 1986, graduating with a master of business administration. His professional career at the university, meanwhile, began in 1998, and has included leadership roles such as director of annual giving and marketing programs and director of communications, marketing, and stewardship. He previously held marketing and brand management positions with General Motors, including time as assistant brand manager of the Intrigue Brand Plan.
Bob is a seasoned marketing professional and a strategic though leader in the field of fundraising communications and planning. He currently lives in Okemos, Michigan.
