Maryland resident Brian Kezer enrolled in the Naval War College several years after completing an advanced computer science degree at George Washington University. In his personal life, Brian Kezer writes a blog expressing his views on current events and has a strong interest in dogs.

While it is well-known that dogs can respond to vocal commands, there has been much research into how much dogs can learn and understand. Most dogs can understand and respond correctly to from 150 to 250 words. More intelligent breeds have been known to obtain a 1,000-word vocabulary with intense training.

Animal behavior specialists have investigated how dogs are able to interpret human language. Researchers at ELTE University in Budapest found that dogs analyze both tone and word sounds to process language, the same way humans do. Another study discovered that dogs can distinguish between very similar-sounding words such as “hid” and “had.” Dogs are also able to recognize the same word being spoken by multiple unfamiliar voices.
