As principal of Roosevelt High School in New York, Broderick Spencer draws upon more than 25 years of relevant experience in managing all administrative aspects of the school. Since taking on the position in 2016, he has overseen significant increases in state exam scores in English, Algebra 2, and Global Studies. Broderick Spencer previously served for three years as principal at Woodlands Middle School, where he implemented the $460,000 SPLASH program to incorporate Common Core Teaching Strategies in Language Arts.
Broderick Spencer has held leadership roles at several other schools in New York and Mississippi and has been responsible for administrative functions like scheduling, teacher evaluations, budget management, after-school programs, and technology incorporation. He began his career in 1992 as a substitute teacher with Mississippi Public Schools.
In addition to his administrative and teaching experience, Mr. Spencer coached varsity baseball and football at Callaway High School and served as head coach of the women's basketball team at Bowie High School. He holds a master's degree in secondary education curriculum and instruction from Howard University and a bachelor's degree in law and society from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
