With a rich history dating back nearly 100 years, the Charles River Country Club, featuring a Donald Ross-designed course, is located outside of Boston, Massachusetts. With a playing distance of 6,657 yards, the Charles River has a course rating of 72.7 and a slope rating of 131.
An early bond-holding member of the club was amateur golfer Francis Ouimet, who was active at the course from 1922 through his death in 1967. Ouimet’s caddie, Eddie Lowrey, was also an early bond-holding member. Lowrey, an accomplished amateur golfer who won the 1927 Massachusetts Amateur Championship, earned the status of club champion in 1933 and 1936.
Over the past century, the course has hosted a variety of amateur and professional tournaments, including the 2006 Massachusetts Open and the 2003 United States Golf Association (USGA) Men’s State Team Championship. In addition, the course was selected as the venue for the 2013 US Amateur Championship stroke-play qualifying rounds.
