Based in Georgia, Companions for Heroes (C4H) seeks out loving homes for animals that are facing possible euthanization at shelters. The nonprofit works closely with first responders, veterans, and military active duty personnel, many of whom have experienced psychological challenges over the course of their service. Since its establishment, Companions for Heroes has delivered canine companions to more than 4,000 heroes nationwide.

C4H has an integral role when it comes to public awareness of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Founder David Sharpe envisioned the nonprofit after having overcome serious personal PTSD struggles as a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces. For more than a decade, his aim has been to spark purpose and compassion in people’s lives, as they care for, play with, and walk their pets every day.

The organization had a high profile boost in 2019, when singer Easton Corbin, moved by the impact of the nonprofit’s mission, publicly endorsed C4H. The country star subsequently created a video for his hit single “Raising Humans” that promoted C4H and widened its public reach.
