Damien Hansen

Office Manager with the University of San Francisco

University of San Francisco

An accomplished and versatile administrator with a 10-year military background, Damien Hansen was recognized as a top-performing lieutenant and a premier air wing instructor at the Naval Strike & Air Warfare Center. In this role, Damien was tasked with training and evaluating dozens of air intelligence officers in a variety of graduate-level disciplines, including battle management, tactics, and combined strike warfare intelligence analysis. Damien displayed superb leadership and managerial ability and was rewarded with tours of duty as Department Head in Operations and Administration for a total of four years. He also guided the operations department as Assistant Department Head for another three years. Lieutenant Damien Hansen dedicated more than 1300 hours to training junior sailors as Officer In Charge of the Navy’s Funeral Honor Detail Team based in Alameda. He presided over 331 funerals and memorial services and presented the ceremonial flag to the families of fallen service members. The Secretary of the Navy awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal to Lieutenant Hansen in 2013 for his sustained superior leadership, noteworthy accomplishments, and devotion to duty.

In addition to his military training, Damien Hansen gained more than seven years of experience in enrollment management and student affairs at Dominican University of California in San Rafael, where he also earned his master of science in education. After receiving his Honorable Discharge from the US Navy in 2015, Damien returned to higher education as an office manager at the University of San Francisco where he directs operations, assists with recruitment efforts, and oversees classroom scheduling and facilities management. Damien’s current assignment as office manager allowed him to expedite the completion of his PhD in business administration from Northcentral University in San Diego. His published doctoral dissertation addresses the impact of current economic and demographic trends on the sustainability of existing business models in higher education. A lifelong learner, Dr. Hansen continues to augment his education by taking courses in politics and government at Hillsdale College, where he supports educational efforts for liberty as a Charter Member of the college’s new Liberty & Learning Society.

While Dr. Damien Hansen honorably served his country in the US Navy for more than a decade, he has also been recognized for his commitment to serving his local community over the years. He has won several accolades, including the Volunteer Center of Marin’s Marin County Volunteer of the Year Award for his tireless work providing coaching, tutoring, and mentorship services to the most vulnerable populations of Marin. Damien was later recognized with Dominican University of California’s Katy McGovern Award for Community Service for greatly enhancing the local community through his volunteer service and philanthropic spirit. Most recently, for his significant contributions during the northern California fires of October 2017, Dr. Hansen was awarded the William J. Dunne Award, the highest individual honor bestowed on a member of the University of San Francisco community for extraordinary service to the university and the community at large.
