Darren Stumberger is a former professional baseball player who continues to be active in the sport in a volunteer capacity. Based in Atlantic Highlands, NJ, Darren Stumberger volunteers with school-age athletes as an instructor and coach. Over the past several years, he has been involved in teaching fundamentals to children in locations throughout NJ and other East Coast states.
Mr. Stumberger excelled at baseball while in high school, and was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 1990. But he elected to pursue a collegiate career at the University of South Florida. His achievements as a Division 1 athlete included earning All Region Metro Conference and All American recognition.
Selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 19th round of the Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft, Mr. Stumberger spent 6 years within the organization’s minor league operations. Throughout a career of almost 600 games he was able to achieve a consistently high .288 batting average, with 353 RBIs.
