David Lawrence is a director of Stone Energy Corporation, chairman of the external advisory board of the Yale Climate and Energy Institute, and a veteran geologist and natural resources exploration and development executive who recently held leadership responsibilities with Houston-based Shell Upstream Americas. During his tenure, he oversaw diverse aspects of land and commercial business and drove new business development efforts. In his role as executive vice president, David Lawrence served as the functional head of global exploration.
In 2011, under David Lawrence’s leadership, a joint cooperation agreement with the marine industry solutions leader Wartsila was signed to increase the marine fuel utilization of liquefied natural gas (LNG). The use of LNG in Wartsila dual-fuel engines has had a positive environmental impact by minimizing emissions of greenhouse gasses such as nitrogen oxides and CO2. David Lawrence also guided deepwater discoveries in the Gulf of Mexico and led a number of Shell’s early China exploration and Ukraine onshore projects.
