DJ HotLipz

Hotlipz Creatives ltd

With talent, drive and a sense of creative genius, DJ HotLipz masterfully fuses House, Funk, EDM and
Latino beats in a way that leaves listeners simultaneously excited, satisfied and longing for more. Only
few DJs have what it takes to truly understand the complexities of music and merge seemingly
inharmonious genres into a beautiful and psychedelic art form; and DJ HotLipz is one of such few.
Born and raised in the UK, Janette Armstrong spent most of her life in south London where she went into
a thirty-year Fashion career after a career advisor scoffed at the idea of music as a sustainable
occupation. But music was always in her background: Janette’s uncle, the late Anthony Bonner, who
had run all the Jukeboxes around London, not only inspired her love for a wide cross section of music
but also left his extensive selection of vinyls for her when he died.
Since 2012 Janette has been relentless to embrace her passion to become a DJ , while working full time
in the fashion industry , she decided to fervently pursue her teenage dream by taking a beginners DJing
course at the LSA in Camden. She then went on to pass the intermediate and advanced courses
with distinction. This is when DJ HotLipz was born.
Her first gig as a DJ was in the renown Market House in Brixton, London. Her quick success led her to a
spot on City Links Radio UK, an internet radio station, which sent her on tour across London as well as in
Amsterdam. She played her final gig at Pacha before relocating to Kingston, Jamaica.
In November of 2014, Janette arrived in Jamaica to assist in re-injecting some creative appeal into the
fashion industry. She was invited to give a workshop to young fashion designers, but when organizers
learned of her UK DJ history, they asked her to play at the cocktail party at the Pegasus Hotel. The
crowd was massive, and included celebrities such as Usain Bolt, Bunji Garlin, Sean Paul and a host of
Caribbean fashion and music icons. It was this moment that catapulted HotLipz career as a DJ in
Jamaica, sending her straight to the top of the local charts.
Since then, HotLipz has played a wide variety of gigs in Jamaica, including appearances at the Hard
Rock Cafe, Steve Urchin’s Birthday Bash, DJ Farenheit’s Birthday Bash, Stones Throw, Jamsterdam, the
Longboarder Bar, Jamnesia Surf Camp, beach parties in Ocho Rios, Collection Moda and several
events with Brand New Machine. She has also maintained a regular weekly spot on Jamaica’s Hot 102
FM.
HotLipz is currently booked for a festival in December and hopes to expand her appearances to festival
and events across the Caribbean, the United States and the world.
Through all the music and the spinning, she has never forgotten her fashion roots. HotLipz now produces
branded shirts and bags and is in the process of creating her very own collection of ladies apparel that
merges her own fashion eccentricity with her love for EDM and funky music.
“The reason I love EDM and funky house music is that I love to see people dancing and getting
wild along with me. Although I can play other genres such as Reggae, I feel I can better express
my creative musical skills to this music as its more versatile to mash up, loop and put my own
signature to the beat rather than just playing the artist’s song.”
