Before establishing himself in Denton, Texas, he went through a rigorous course of study and training. In total, he spent close to ten years of training to be a spine surgeon. Dr. Gottlieb earned a degree in biochemistry from Cornell University and then went onto finish a medical degree at the same school. As part of his training, he worked at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center as an orthopedic resident and in an internship in general surgery. He also was chief orthopedic resident in the same medical center.
Dr. Gottlieb also served as a chief orthopedic resident for the National Health System in Norwich. Before beginning his career as a spine surgeon, he completed a fellowship at the Texas Back Institute in Plano, Texas.
