After completing a bachelor's degree in biology at the University of Texas (UT), San Antonio’s Dr. Michael L. Murphy obtained his MD from the UT Southwestern Medical School in 1983. He later completed an internal medicine internship and anesthesiology residency at the UT Medical School. In addition, he was chief anesthesiology resident for a year at Audie Murphy Veterans Hospital and Bexar County Hospital. Dr. Michael L. Murphy was appointed chairman of the Guadalupe Valley Hospital in 1986 and served 6 years in this role.
Michael Murphy, MD, concurrently served as director of the Guadalupe Valley Paint Treatment Center. In 1992, he began working as staff anesthesiologist at Northeast Baptist Hospital and Northeast Methodist Hospital. He has since worked for several other practices and served in executive capacities at Palestra Rehabilitation and Sports Training Center and North Central Methodist Ambulatory Surgery Center.
Dr. Murphy has operated a private pain medicine practice in San Antonio, Texas, since 2019. Complementing more than three decades of experience, he is a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology and has conducted research on several drugs designed to reduce pain among patients with various ailments.
