With extensive experience as a Washington State school administrator, Dr. Nancy Coogan held responsibilities as Tukwila School District Superintendent from July 2013 to August 2017. Among Dr. Nancy Coogan’s accomplishments was setting in place teachers, staff, and school leaders who were caring and effective. Her efforts helped ensure that all students had equitable access to standards-aligned academic instruction and benefitted from an innovative blended learning model.

Dr. Coogan previously engaged with the Seattle Public Schools as Executive Director and oversaw 21 schools that ranged from the best-off to those with the highest rates of poverty. Supervising a full roster of principals, she facilitated professional development in the area of instructional leadership. Dr. Coogan also spearheaded districtwide training related to implementing Charlotte Danielson’s Instructional Framework, she set in place an arts-infused education spanning English language arts and math.

Dr. Nancy Coogan’s background includes six years guiding Olympic View Middle School as Principal, in which role she implemented a professional learning culture that was successful both in boosting student performance and in empowering instructors.

In addition, Dr. Nancy Coogan’s published work includes coauthoring a chapter in Mindfulness for Educational Practice: A Path to Resilience for Challenging Work. Her dissertation titled Resiliency: An Action Research Study with Two High School Principals is available through Washington State University’s online Research Exchange, and Becoming a Mindful Superintendent in a “Turnaround” District, a research article she coauthored, was accepted for publication by Scientific Research Publishing in September 2015.
