An administrative leader in the education field, Dr. Owen Roberts has earned four academic degrees throughout his 40-year career, from a bachelor of science in biochemistry and religion from Northern Caribbean University, formerly West Indies College, in 1979, to a PhD in 1999 from the University of Miami in Florida. Simultaneous with his studies at Northern Caribbean, Dr. Owen Roberts also taught mathematics and science courses at Beaumont Comprehensive College and West Indies College High School.
In 1984, Dr. Roberts received an MA in Educational and Psychological Research, Evaluation, and Statistical Methodology from Andrews University in Michigan. The following year he moved to Bermuda, where he served as head of the computer science department at Bermuda Institute. Seeking to enhance his knowledge in the subject, he then completed a master of science in computer studies in 1991 at Florida's Nova Southeast University.
Dr. Owen Roberts led the math and science department at Sandys Secondary School in Bermuda until 1996, when he moved to Florida to pursue and earn a PhD in educational statistics and research methodology from the University of Miami and during that time taught graduate classes in Statistics. He graduated with distinction and was awarded with the honor of being the most outstanding graduate student in his program. He has spent the past 18 years in leadership roles for Florida school boards and, since 2014, has served as superintendent of Alachua County Public Schools.
