As a professor at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Dr. Richard Burt draws on diverse clinical and research experience spanning hematology, medical oncology, and the transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells. Over the past three decades, Dr. Richard Burt has had a particular focus on addressing autoimmune conditions in areas such as rheumatology, neurology, and gastroenterology and implemented stem cell trials worldwide.
Having completed a BS in chemistry at the University of Missouri, Dr. Burt received his MD from the St. Louis University School of Medicine cum laude. In the early 1990s he pursued a clinical fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Cancer Institute and undertook a number of clinical fellowships, including with the NIH Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
During this time, Dr. Burt additionally completed three years of active duty military service as a lieutenant commander with the Public Health Service. From 1994 to 2000, he served as director of Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplantation at Northwestern University. In addition to his tenured faculty role, Dr. Richard Burt currently serves as chief of the institution’s Division of Immunotherapy and Autoimmune Diseases.
