Let’s start with the basics of ECU remapping or an ECU Tune. An ECU (Engine Control Unit) is the brains to your internal combustion engine which reads a range of data from different sensors that are hooked into the engine. This data is then fed into a range of tables which calculate the vehicle’s base air and fuel ratio, boost levels and much more.
By constantly monitoring the air and throttle input, the intake and coolant temperatures and many other inputs, the ECU will adjust to get the performance results it’s programmed to.
ECU remapping is, simply put, adjusting these base table parameters to get your desired results. If that is more power, better fuel economy or engine efficiency, ECU remapping is the way to achieve this. Basic ECU remapping can be done with no other modifications because when manufactures setup their ECUs, they account for a huge amount of variation in the operating environment.
A common reason for there being untapped power and performance in stock diesel engines is that manufactures de-tune the engine from what they’re capable of for the sake of longevity. Not only that, but the base factors are set for a variety of environments that may not be the most efficient for our (your) conditions.
With our master tuners and their access to our master suite of hardware and software for ECU remapping, Just Autos can performance-tune thousands of different parameters. We choose to modify at the point of the ECU as it allows unrestricted access to the parameters which can unlock a reliable performance ECU tune, compared to downstream chips which have issues of their own.
