From its headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, EdisonLearning works with educators and communities around the world to boost school performance in public education. Originally named simply Edison, EdisonLearning began with an extensive period of research and development as its leadership team devoted four years to the in-depth study and refinement of school operations design. The first four schools under its management opened in 1995.
In 1999, the company changed its name to Edison Schools, established its first summer school, and expanded into the United Kingdom. Stateside, it turned around dozens of low-performing schools between 2000 and 2005.
The company assumed the EdisonLearning moniker in 2008. In addition to continuing to expand and refine its US initiatives over the next decade, EdisonLearning secured contracts with educational organizations overseas in Abu Dhabi, China, and Ghana. In 2019, five EdisonLearning alternative schools in Florida received highest “commendable” ratings from the Florida School Recognition Program, and EdisonLearning’s Theodore Roosevelt College and Career Academy in Gary, Indiana, received an “A” grade from the Indiana Department of Education.
