A self-employed psychotherapist in Massachusetts (MA), Emily Schatzow has been practicing in the mental health field for more than four decades. During that time, Emily Schatzow held such roles as group services coordinator at the Victims of Violence Program in Cambridge, MA, co-founder of a local women’s shelter, and member of the Community Crisis Response Team.
These positions gave Ms. Schatzow a range of experience that encompassed everything from providing psychotherapy services to groups and individuals to facilitating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSA) sessions and training staff in trauma practices. She was also a lecturer in psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
Ms. Schatzow began her long career shortly after receiving her bachelor’s degree from University of Wisconsin and her master’s from Boston University. With the goal of sharing her understanding of the field, she has written and co-written several publications, including “The Trauma Recovery Group: A Guide for Practitioners.” This books guides therapists helping clients who have traumatic experiences in their past find stability and safety in their everyday lives. She also co-wrote “Breaking Secrecy: Adult Survivors Disclose to their Families.”
Beyond her work in mental health, Ms. Schatzow serves as the senior consultant at VISIONS, Inc. This Dorchester, Massachusetts-based firm helps organizations improve their diversity, inclusion, and equity practices through training and consultation services.
