A graduate of Latvian State University in Latvia with a bachelor's degree in applied math, Eugene (Evgueni) Maftsir (Евгений Мафцир) subsequently completed his master's degree in mathematics with a focus on algebra. After earning his master’s degree, he became an assistant professor at the College of Civil Aviation Engineers. During that time, Eugene (Evgueni) Maftsir also became a system programmer at NPO Progress.
In 1990, he came to the United States with only $300 in his pocket. Soon he became the executive vice president of Elegant Logic, Inc., in Secaucus, New Jersey, where he oversaw the export of personal computers and software to Eastern Europe. Approximately 6 years later, he became the president of Elbron Holdings, a financial firm headquartered in the city of Wayne. Then, in 2002, he founded Bev Associates in Franklin Lakes. Since then, he has served as the company's president, drawing on his background in math to provide clients with nonstandard financial solutions.
On a personal level, Mr. Maftsir regularly contributes to Chabad. His hobbies include diving, playing chess, and traveling.
