A good number of land owners with a large farm go for the farm hedging system to protect their investments. The first thing to consider is, how well it works?
If you own a small farm and have a large horse and dairy herd, you should think about putting up some fences. It is a good idea to do so because a good way to attract pests is through the fences, but what about the other things that a good fence can do? What else can it do?
Rain erosion. All that fencing, whether horse or dairy, can cut off water from the stream that runs under your farm. This will mean that more water than usual flows over the fence. This means more precipitation on the land, which then results in more runoff.
Additionally, if water is not able to flow properly, animals that normally drink the water, like the cows, may suffer from diarrhea. How will you know if this has already happened?
If this happens, then you are going to be in for a big winter thaw. So to avoid that problem, simply move your cows to a place where you know there will be no thaw.
Pests such as ticks, moles, and mosquitoes will come out and make up your farm look worse than before the drought. Furthermore, they will find it hard to come back after the drought has ended.
Lots of livestock produce lots of waste. These wastes can attract pests like fleas and worms and if they are not properly managed, it can lead to a breeding ground for rodents, birds, and other animals.
On the other hand, these pests may make up your farm look more attractive. For instance, if you have a pasture or field, the ground can give off a nice soft smell, especially when deer or other animals are grazing. This can lure insects and mice.
Whatever it is that you are looking to protect your investment, farm hedging can do a great job. A well-managed, well-placed fence is guaranteed to do everything from keeping pests out to keeping predators away from your livestock.
No matter what your reasons are for wanting to protect your investment, a good system is a good way to go. For example, there are different fence systems that will work best on certain types of land and those that have better water retention capability.
And finally, if there are a lot of decisions to be made, perhaps hedging is not the simple thing that some people think it is. But then again, hedging can do more than just protect your investments.
