‌Gerry (Gerald) Forestell‌ is an avid gardener and outdoor enthusiast from Huntsville, Ontario.

He is a 1984 graduate of Banting Memorial High School and earned his degree at the‌ ‌University‌ ‌of‌ ‌Western‌ ‌Ontario‌ ‌in‌ ‌1990‌.

Growing up, Gerry first became interested in gardening during a summer job at Walter’s Garden Centre and Nursery, a family owned business located on the 15th line in New Tecumseth. It was at Walter’s that Gerry learned the tricks and trades of gardening. He was inspired by his boss who had immigrated from Europe during the post-war 1950s. As the summers past Gerry would start to play an active role in turning an empty or overgrown yard into a beautiful garden.

These days, Gerry Forestell is very active in sports and participates in a wide variety of outdoor activities - from hiking‌, road biking‌ and mountain‌ biking to canoeing, kayaking, cross‌ ‌country‌ ‌and‌ ‌downhill‌ ‌skiing,‌ and ‌hockey‌. Gerry also loves to travel, something he tries to do as often as possible.

Over the years and alongside his family and friends, Gerry has had the opportunity to travel around the world to explore new destinations. He has completed multiple Georgian Bay kayaking trips, as well as trips to Baja Mexico in the Sea of Cortez. As an avid skiing enthusiast, Gerry visited Jackson Hole, Wyoming in 2019, among other ski destinations.

During his time visiting the Southwestern United States, specifically Utah’s red rock country, Gerry’s interest in landscape photography began to pique. In the future, he plans on improving his knowledge and skill of photography as he enjoys taking pictures of beautiful landscapes on his travels.

As a passionate gardener, Gerry’s gardens are filled with various shade perennials – hostas of various varieties, astilbes – various heights and colours; ferns – similarly various varieties ; Siberian Bugloss; Solomon’s seal; ligularia. Although his first exposure to gardening was through his summer job, it wasn’t until he purchased his own home in Huntsville that he truly got into gardening on his own time.

Gerry is also an avid contributor/supporter to a range of charities including the‌ World‌ ‌Wildlife‌ ‌Fund‌, ‌MSF‌/Doctors‌ ‌Without‌ ‌Borders‌, UNICEF and many local organizations.
