Based in Northern California, Gregory “Greg” Munks took an elected position as San Mateo County sheriff in 2006. Guiding the efforts of more than 600 sworn and civilian personnel, Greg Munks oversaw coordinated activities that spanned 500 square miles. His efforts were successful in reducing gang violence, and he led high-profile investigations that included robberies and homicide.

Sheriff Greg Munks has led police services on behalf of the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans) and Caltrain, operated by the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board. His organization also provides the San Francisco International Airport with investigative services. He has been able to expand organizational capacities to include policing Millbrae, Half Moon Bay, and San Carlos, all of which are incorporated municipalities that faced persistent budget and public safety challenges.

Sheriff Greg Munks has a strong sense of community commitment, and helped establish the Community Alliance to Rebuild our Neighborhood (CARON) initiative. He led efforts that offered inmates throughout the country services related to mental health, vocational training, and substance abuse. Gregory Munks has also held board responsibilities with organizations such as The National Center for Equine Facilitated Therapy and Youth and Family Enrichment Services.
