How to Replace Your Old Lighting with a LED Flood Light

LED flood lights are a popular type of lighting fixture, which is used to illuminate bright white lights in larger areas like stadiums, stages, yards, parking lots, private gardens, home living spaces, etc. These flood light fixtures offer several advantages over other lighting sources like fluorescent and CFL systems. They are environmentally friendly, highly durable and it doesn’t require more maintenance. There are several LED flood light manufacturers are available in the market and they are experts in manufacturing flood lights for outdoor lighting for commercial and industrial applications.

Installing a flood light is the best way to enhance the nighttime safety and security of your home. A flood light is activated by the motion on your property and floods the area with a bright light. Some of the flood lights are even available with smart controls that send alerts, and you can control them on your mobile devices. The following is the step-by-step guide involved in installing a flood light.

Choose the Location:

When you are planning to install a flood light, the first thing you need to consider is the location of the light fixture. It should be at least a minimum of 9 feet high from the ground in order to provide the most efficient illumination. Think about where you want to place the light, such as your front door, garage, or even a shed in a dark corner of your yard, etc. When you decided on the location, use a ladder to reach the spot and mark it using a pen or with a piece of tape.

Turn Off the Power:

Safety is the first important priority when you are working on an electrical project. Before you start working on electrical work in your home, turn off the electricity in the working area. Go to your circuit breaker box and locate the switch for your outdoor power sources and flip it to the off position. Before you start touching the wires, check them with a voltage tester in order to ensure that they don’t have any power supply running on them.

Remove Existing Light Fixtures:

If you are replacing an existing light fixture with a new LED floor light, it is important to remove the old one before installing a new one. Unscrew the old light bulbs and remove the fixture from the wall plate. Gently pull everything from the wall and use a voltage tester to check if there is any current passing through the exposed wiring before touching it.

Installing a New One:

Attach the new mounting strap for the LED flood light where the old one was placed. Ensure that you have all access to all the electric wires and match the wires of the new light fixture. Connect the wires by using wire connectors and electrical tape. Use a screwdriver to screw the flood light to the mounting strip and twist the LED bulbs into the fixture. Turn on the power and check whether the lights are working in a good condition.

Once the light is installed, consider the best angle for the light bulbs in order to get maximum illumination where you want.
