An individual of diverse professional and personal interests, Ian Chinich holds a bachelor of arts in political science from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and a master of arts in political science from Boston University. Over the course of his career, he has served tenures as a New Jersey warehouse worker and a food preparation employee with Whole Foods Market in Providence, Rhode Island. Ian Chinich currently serves as a customer service representative with Automated Health Systems in East Providence, where he performs a range of administrative and troubleshooting duties.

In his free time, Ian Chinich furthers his knowledge of history and politics through independent study. His other interests include heavy metal and progressive rock music, Japanese anime, time-travel science fiction such as Dr. Who, and working-class poetry including the work of Morris Rosenfeld. Mr. Chinich is also an avid soccer player who played competitively from age 4 to age 16.
