An alumnus of the University of Illinois at Chicago, Dr. Ilyas Munshi earned a doctor of medicine from Rush Medical College, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and earned the National Engineering Consortium Award. Dr. Ilyas Munshi later completed an internship and residency with University of Chicago Hospitals and earned neurosurgery accreditation from the American Board of Neurological Surgery.
In 2001, Dr. Ilyas Munshi moved to Lafayette, Louisiana, where he opened his own practice and developed working relationships with Lafayette General Medical Center, Lafayette Surgical Hospital, and Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. Dr. Munshi has a special interest in epilepsy, pituitary tumors, and complex spinal conditions, and has extensive experience performing procedures such as spinal fusion, herniated disc surgery, deep brain stimulation, and stereotactic radiosurgery.
Beyond treating patients, he provides free neurosurgery care to individuals meeting low-income thresholds. He is also a member of the American Board of Neurological Surgery and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, among other professional organizations.
