Rising damp is not the most common form of dampness encountered in buildings; this is left to condensation. However, a high proportion of older buildings are affected by rising damp to some degree or another. The company are experts at dealing with all types of damp problems and the damp proofing solutions needed.
When hygroscopic damp has taken hold in a wall it becomes a cause of dampness in its own right and can therefore continue to be a problem even though the rising damp has been rectified (e.g. by the installation of a new damp-proof course). This is one of the reasons that it is sometimes necessary to carry out specialist replastering as part of a rising damp treatment.
In order to obtain the full benefit of the damp proof course, it is essential that all actual and potential sources of moisture ingress be rectified as soon as possible and that thereafter the property is regularly and properly maintained. A damp-proof course must not subsequently be bridged in any way by new paths, gardens, solid floors, etc. External renderings should be stopped short above the level of the damp proof course and terminated in a bell cast mould.
Most forms of deterioration that affect old buildings in the United Kingdom are attributable to the presence of excessive moisture. Dampness promotes timber decay, the corrosion of metals and even structural collapse. It mobilises soluble salts that harm masonry and increases frost damage. The damp fabric also reduces thermal efficiency. Dampness inside buildings spoils plasterwork, decorations and furniture, and creates conditions that are uncomfortable or harmful to the health of occupants.
The company is a qualified damp proofing and timber treatment company that provides expert advice and solutions for any damp or timber problems your property may have. Before any specialist work is started we will carry out a detailed diagnostic inspection of your property which is followed up with a report that details both the cause and the proposed remedial action. The organisation has a vast experience in all aspects of the damp and timber industry and are able to provide a full turnkey service for all clients. In addition to the specialist work we provide, the company staff of time-served team tradesmen also carry out building projects ranging from simple structural maintenance solutions through to house extensions and complex basement conversions
