Drawing on nearly 20 years of experience as a primary care physician, James D. Tollman, MD, is the president and CEO of Essex Inpatient Physicians, where he manages 19 full-time-equivalent hospitalists and other medical professionals and is responsible for staffing several medical facilities, including a long-term acute-care hospital and 13 skilled-nursing facilities. He has served in this capacity since 2007. Dr. James D. Tollman concurrently leads as president of Chiron Medical Management Company, as a partner at Osler Medical Group, and as medical director at First Choice Community Medical Associates, the latter of which is an assisted-living and home-visit primary care practice.

In addition to these roles, Dr. James Tollman maintains hospital privileges at Holy Family Hospital, Lawrence General Hospital, Anna Jacques Hospital, and Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital. He previously held executive-level roles at Amara Medical Aesthetics, EyeFormatics Incorporated, and Arbor Inpatient Physicians, among other medical companies.

Dr. Tollman holds membership with professional groups such as the Massachusetts Medical Society, Massachusetts Academy of Family Physicians, and the Society of Hospital Medicine. He obtained his MD from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine and earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Minnesota's Carleton College.
