A longtime Baton Rouge business leader, Jan Berkowitz served for seven years as the chief executive officer of GDC, which provided dedicated waste bioremediation and recycling services. In working with biohazardous materials, the company helped dispose of commercially and industrially sourced waste in energy-efficient ways. Today Jan Berkowitz maintains a strong focus on sustainability and is interested in developing new solutions to persistent shortfalls in energy around the world.

Mr. Berkowitz is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys activities ranging from mountain biking to offshore sport fishing in his free time. The quarry when deep-sea fishing is larger fish species, which present distinct challenges for recreational anglers. He has achieved first prize in a number of fishing competitions involving big-game fish such as marlin and tuna.

Mr. Berkowitz also has a longstanding interest in restoring classic muscle cars and has rebuilt a Chevy Camaro Z28 from the ground up. He races stock cars for fun and also holds a commercial pilot’s license.

Jan Berkowitz enjoys eating out when he has the chance and has an appreciation for fine dining that ranges from Thai food to classic American dishes.
