The head of MMA at a California-based gym, Jason Borba is a certified CrossFit instructor, former professional MMA athlete, and combat veteran. A native of Palm Springs, California, he began his career more than two decades ago working security and warehouseman for various companies. For almost 10 years, he worked in a range of positions throughout the state before enlisting in the United States Army as a combat infantryman for the 101st airborne. Jason Borba served with the U.S. Army as an infantryman and combatives instructor for about 3 1/2 years before moving to the California National Guard and spending another two years in the infantry and using skills as a combatives instructor to certify his unit.
While he served in the armed forces, Mr. Borba earned several awards and honors. A level 3 honor graduate in combatives, he is an Air Assault Road March Champion and holds an Air Assault Badge. He also earned such honors as the Overseas Service Ribbon and Army Commendation Medal. This record of success continued after Mr. Borba’s honorable discharge and into his involvement as a professional MMA fighter. A lightweight MMA fighter, he won four out of five of his professional and amateur competitions. In his current position as a trainer, his personal experience with MMA and combat infantry guide him as he designs MMA programming and trains clients.
