A graduate of Lincoln University in Oxford, Pennsylvania, Jelani “Lani” Wray studied music and performing arts as well as business with a concentration in marketing. He went on to find success as a music production manager in Brooklyn, New York. Over his six years with Brooklyn’s Free Form Productions, Jelani Wray scouted, signed, and developed a number of successful artists as an A&R professional.
Lani Wray established Wray's Caribbean and Seafood Cuisine in 2014 while still employed at Free Form Productions. He continues to operate this Brooklyn restaurant with an emphasis on quality food and service. As he stated in a 2015 interview with New York City’s PIX 11, the restaurant also stresses the importance of securing and keeping a perfect “A” rating from the city's health department.
Since January 2020, Jelani Wray has also served as a music production manager with Brooklyn’s Humble King Records. He handles all aspects of talent sourcing and acquisition for Humble King, including the negotiation of licensing and distribution agreements.
