A respected member of the Bloomsburg University community, John Barrett holds tenured responsibilities as an assistant professor of writing. He works with students at all levels, with an emphasis on those taking introductory courses. Since fall 2019, John Barrett has additionally held responsibilities as coordinator of Bloomsburg's online student support curricula.
In the latter role, Mr. Barrett is tasked with developing a pilot course and collecting assessment data as that course progresses. At the project’s completion, he will use this data to generate recommendations pertaining to the potential for distance learning campus wide.
Before entering academia, Mr. Barrett held responsibilities as a marketing representative for the paper division of Procter and Gamble, and for the telecommunications division of IBM. He also gained leadership experience as a marketing manager of a small recycled paper business in Boston.
Currently at work on a memoir that centers on his father, who sang in the 50s pop group The Crew Cuts, Mr. Barrett delivered a pitch for the project at the virtually held Pittsburgh Writer's Workshop. He also attends events such as the Creative Nonfiction Conference and the New York City Pitch Conference.
