After serving as an engineering intern at UGI Utilities in Reading, Pennsylvania, John P. Stoppi began his career as a systems engineer with Northrop Grumman in Newport News, Virginia. Over the course of more than 2 years in this position, he assumed lead design engineer responsibilities for a series of non-manned seawater fire protection systems that were installed on the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford. He went on to spend time in a number of engineering positions, such as primary special inspector for the New York City Department of Buildings (NYC DOB) and senior fire protection engineer and director of East Coast operations at Zari Consulting Group. John P. Stoppi recently launched his own licensed special inspection agency in Philadelphia, while also working as owner and chief code consultant at Saturn Inspection Agency.
Throughout his engineering career, John Stoppi has established himself as a member of numerous professional organizations and societies, including the National Fire Protection Association, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, PHDengineer.com, and the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. A graduate of the University of Maryland’s master of science in fire protection engineering program, he continues to engage with and support a number of university initiatives.
