The department head and chief of the Bristol Bay Police Department (BBPD), John Rhyshek supervises the daily activities of five police officers and a 911 dispatch center with six staff members. John Rhyshek is also in charge of the BBPD detention facility. Headquartered in King Salmon, Alaska, the BBPD serves the greater Bristol Bay area, including Naknek and South Naknek.
Before assuming his current position with the BBPD in 2010, John Rhyshek served 5 years as an officer with the Houston Police Department in Houston, Alaska, and a year as a state patrol officer working out of Palmer, Alaska. Combining his love of flying with his public safety activities, he has a history of involvement with the Civil Air Patrol. Mr. Rhyshek also has a history of public service as a forest tech with the United States Forest Service, maintaining backcountry tails and performing major construction work on remote cabins in Petersburg, Alaska.
