John Vawter of Birmingham, Alabama, serves as principal of Capstone Collegiate Communities (C3), LLC. Joining Capstone Development Corp. in 1990, John Vawter was executive vice president of the Birmingham company and oversaw the development of a range of campus student housing projects. His start-to-finish involvement included selecting sites and managing design and construction.
Through 2011, Mr. Vawter oversaw completion of nearly two dozen off-campus student housing communities, as well as a half-dozen that involved public/private partnerships and were situated on campuses. Since taking his current position, he has guided 15 additional campus communities and is presently managing under-construction projects across several states. An additional seven projects are in the development phase, including those in East Lansing, Michigan, and Flagstaff, Arizona.
Earning designation as an Eagle Scout in his youth, John Vawter is a member of the Church of the Highlands and serves on the board of directors of the Jimmy Hale Mission for the Homeless. In his free time, he is an outdoor enthusiast who runs and hunts. He particularly enjoys spending time with his family, which includes six children.
