Dr. Kathryn Philpott-Hill is an artistic individual who has a passion for outlets that demand creative expression. A ballet dancer as a young girl, she enjoys reading books on art, watching films, and listening to music. As such, Dr. Kathryn Philpott-Hill regularly attends the Asheville Art Museum and the Asheville Film Festival, an annual event that celebrates the art of filmmaking. She is also an avid traveler who has been to Europe on multiple occasions.

Dr. Kathryn Philpott-Hill operated a dental practice in Sylva, North Carolina, from 1996 to 2008, during which time she conducted routine check-ups and treated various health problems, such as tooth decay and gum disease. She also was responsible for hiring and training additional staff, maintaining an up-to-date inventory of medical equipment, and managing the practice's finances.

She earned her doctor of dental surgery from Louisiana State University's School of Dentistry and subsequently completed continuing dental education courses. In addition, she maintained membership with the American Dental Association.
