A longstanding resident of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Kumuena Tekasala holds both a bachelor of science in kinesiology and a master of science in occupational therapy from the University of Manitoba (UM). While completing his graduate degree, he served brief tenures as a UM orientation leader for incoming first-year occupational therapy students and a UM admissions interviewer who assessed applicants for the occupational therapy program. Kumuena Tekasala also worked as a student occupational therapist with the River East/Transcona Health Aging Resource Team, the Saskatoon City Hospital Rehab Inpatient Spinal Cord Team, and the Manitoba Adolescent Treatment Centre/Psych Health Centre, and the Health Sciences Centre with the Multiple Sclerosis Clinic.
Since graduating from UM in 2016, Kumuena Tekasala has been employed as an occupational therapist/provisional school clinician with the River East Transcona School Division (RETSD). He has also taken up employment as an occupational therapist at Riverview Health Centre.
