For over two decades, Lucy Bowditch has served as a professor of art history at The College of Saint Rose. In the role, Lucy Bowditch has specialized in the course Art Now, which encourages students to interact with professionals in the art world. It allows students access to over 70 exhibitions.
Dr. Bowditch's classes focus on modern and contemporary art. She also has led a program in Paris, where students gave reports in various Parisian museums. Other courses offered by Professor Bowditch include Art Criticism, Art through Four Elements, Modern Art and Literature. Throughout her career, she has researched and published works in diverse areas including 19th century photography, 21st century media art, Mid-century work by Pollock, and interpretations of the Grand Canyon.
Lucy Bowditch is currently focusing her research on Gustave Courbet, and has had work published on photographers Tanya Marcuse and Edward Steichen, among other figures. She has also written “They Come to Us without a Word: Joan Jonas 2015,” which was published in Afterimage: The Journal of Media Arts and Cultural Criticism.
Before joining The College of Saint Rose, Dr. Bowditch was an adjunct professor at Parsons School of Design, The New School, Hunters College, and Pace University. She taught in New York City while completing her doctoral work.
