A community advocate and volunteer for more than 45 years, Lynne Strong-Shinozaki has organized multiple large-scale community events and has promoted health and housing services on the neighborhood, city, and state levels. She has served since 2014 as an advocate for the American Heart Association's Hands-Only CPR in Schools initiative and accepted the organization's LifeSaver Award in 2015. The following year, she became a member of Weill Cornell Medicine's Community Advisory Board.
Her honors include a Proclamation of the New York City Council for Extraordinary Contributions to the Community. She has volunteered with a number of outreach projects and is an elected member of the New York State Democratic County Committee as well as Manhattan Community Board 8. Particularly involved with the Roosevelt Island community, she serves as a member and committee leader for the neighborhood's residence association.
Previously, Lynne Strong-Shinozaki led as program director for Eviction Intervention Services, where she created a program that helped tenants avoid eviction. She also has represented children during family court proceedings as paralegal and office manager for The Legal Aid Society Juvenile Rights Division.
