Marcell Felipe

Coordinating Efforts to Restore Democracy in Cuba

Initiative for Democratic and Economic Alternatives for Cuba

Based in Miami, Florida, attorney Marcell Felipe serves as the advisory board chair of the Initiative for Democratic and Economic Alternatives (IDEAS) for Cuba, a project launched by the Vaclav Havel Program for Human Rights and Diplomacy at Florida International University. In this role, Marcell Felipe spearheads efforts to bring international attorneys, industry leaders, and economists together to find pathways for Cuban reconstruction following communism.

Mr. Felipe also holds responsibilities as chair of the American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora. He exerts executive authority over the museum, which received a $10 million grant from Miami-Dade County enabling its establishment. The museum continues to be funded both by private donors and the county each year.

In addition, Marcell Felipe gathers support for pro-democracy leadership in nations such as Venezuela and Cuba through a range of high-profile efforts, including meetings with global leaders. Hosting a program on Radio Marti each week, he is part of a US government-funded censorship-free broadcast that reaches Cuban listeners directly.

Since May 2019, Mr. Felipe has served as a governor-appointed trustee with Miami Dade College and helped to steer its planning direction.
