Drawing upon more than 45 years of medical research and information management experience, Mary Hiller is the founder and executive director of Redwood City, California's MedExpert International, which utilizes a combination of artificial intelligence and human pattern understanding to provide efficient and effective medical information systems to Medicaid, Taft Hartley, Commercial and Medicare populations. Mary Hiller established the company in 2000 after working for a decade as a syndicated medical columnist for United Media. At the height of its popularity, her column reached 35 million homes in the United States and was distributed in several other countries. It primarily stressed the importance of evidenced-based knowledge in making medical decisions, which has been the theme of her work both past and present.
Prior to her role with United Media, Mary Hiller worked six years as a medical director with Sutter Health, which was then known as the Palo Alto Medical Foundation. She began her career in 1972 as a leukemia researcher at Stanford University's department of hematology, where she focused on stem cell projects and in vitro experiments for interleukin.
