An experienced South Carolina community resources and human services provider, Maurice Leverne Huggins served four years in the United States Navy in the mid-1990s. Working as a cargo specialist in the Navy Supply Department, he earned a number of honors and decorations including a National Defense Service Ribbon, a Meritorious Unit Commendation, a Good Conduct Medal, and an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Maurice Leverne Huggins went on to serve as a patrolman and neighborhood resource officer with the North Charleston Police Department, and subsequently earned a bachelor of science in sociology from Claflin University.
For the past four years, Mr. Huggins has served as a case manager, assessment provider, and human service specialist with the South Carolina Department of Social Services (SCDSS) in York. His duties with the SCDSS revolve around identifying risk and managing safety for children and their families. This entails completing abuse and neglect assessments and addressing problems through treatment plans to resolve specific deficiencies.
