An artist and craftsman who lives in Boulder, Colorado, Michael Beitz has exhibited his work and completed public art commissions around the world. His surreal sculpture ranges from walls with human ears to a giant pair of pedal-powered clapping hands. Over the course of his career, Michael Beitz as served as artist in residence through multiple organizations and programs including Sculpture Space in Utica, New York, and ART BNB in Jerusalem, Israel.
Much of Michael Beitz’s work is centered in the world of sculptural furniture. For several years, he worked in the studio of Wendell Castle, assisting this famous furniture artist with fine woodworking processes. Mr. Beitz’s own pieces of furniture range from the highly functional to the purely aesthetic. Some of his more striking pieces include “Knot” (a sofa with a tight twist in its midsection) and “Roll” (a long picnic table that appears to emanate from a giant roll of toilet paper).
