A writer, scholar, and educator, Michael Gould-Wartofsky is the author of The Occupiers: The Making of the 99 Percent Movement, published by Oxford University Press in 2019, which required two years of on-the-ground investigation. Since 2011, Michael Gould-Wartofsky has served as an adjunct instructor at New York University, where his research interests include urban sociology, social movements, economic and political sociology, and social theory.

Mr. Gould-Wartofsky holds a bachelor of arts in government from Harvard College. Currently a Ph.D. candidate in sociology at New York University, he received the Best Graduate Student Paper Award from the Society for the Study of Social Problems, Law, and Society Division. Additionally, he has earned several travel grants and the James Gordon Bennett Prize from the Department of Government at Harvard University.

Mr. Gould-Wartofsky’s writing has appeared in the Washington Post, The Nation, Salon, Huffington Post, and Mother Jones. He is also an avid photographer and videographer whose work has been featured on the websites of the New York Times and the Guardian.
