Michael Kalil

Overseeing Complex Trials in Florida Courts

Fourth Judicial Circuit

A resident of Jacksonville, Florida, Michael Kalil began serving as a state circuit judge in January 2021. In this elected role, he builds on an extensive background as a civil trial attorney. From 2011 to 2020, he practiced with the Law Offices of John S. Kalil, representing clients in cases involving personal injury and wrongful death claims as well as medical malpractice. During that time, Michael Kalil regularly saw complex trials to resolution.

A University of North Florida graduate, Mr. Kalil majored in philosophy and served as student government chief justice while completing his degree. He also took part in prelaw and mock trial programs, and chaired a judicial council that brought together colleges statewide. Mr. Kalil earned his JD from the Stetson University College of Law, where he received the William F. Blews Pro Bono Service Award for his commitment to community service.

He continues that commitment through roles including membership in Jacksonville’s quasi-judicial Civil Service Board. Appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the Jacksonville City Council, he served on the board for three years, until early 2020.
