Transtelco

A telecommunications executive, Miguel Fernandez attended Southwestern University from 1993 to 1995, during which time he studied finance and played Division-3 basketball. In 1998, he earned a bachelor's in business administration from the University of Texas at El Paso. A native of El Paso, Miguel Fernandez has since focused his business and charitable efforts in the city.

In 2001 he co-founded Transtelco, one of the few bi-national telecommunications carriers to provide service in both the United States and Mexico. As CEO of the company, he manages budgets, facilitates mergers and acquisitions, and works toward growing its network. To date, Transtelco provides data and voice services to Fortune 1000 companies across a fiber-optic network spanning 10,000 kilometers. As such, Mr. Fernandez is active in discussions regarding border issues and recently authored a Huffington Post column on the subject.

Beyond his professional responsibilities, he previously served on the city's planning commission and is a board member for various organizations, including the local children's hospital and The Hub of Innovation. In his free time, he enjoys skiing and traveling.
